Lentil Soup with Garlic – Shurit Ads

Instructions:

Pick out and rinse the lentils.

Bring the chicken soup to a boil in a large saucepan.

Remove the peel from the onions. Cut two onions into quarters and the third into small cubes.

Peel and quarter the tomatoes.

Remove the peel from the garlic cloves and chop coarsely.

Add the lentils with the onion quarters, the tomatoes and the garlic to the clear soup and cook at a low temperature for about 45 minutes until soft, do not close the pot completely.

Melt 1/2 tablespoon of butter in a frying pan and brown the onion cubes, turning frequently.

Pass the soup through a sieve, heat again, season with salt and cumin.

Just before serving, sprinkle the remaining butter and the browned onion cubes.

In Egypt, Shurit Ads are served with lemon wedges.
