Instructions:

For the owl cookies, first prepare the shortcrust pastry according to the basic recipe and let it rest.

In the meantime, preheat the oven to 170 °C and line a baking tray with baking paper.

Then roll out the shortcrust pastry thinly. Cut out circles with a glass or similar or a round cookie cutter. The diameter of the cookie cutters should not be too small, so that the owls are easily recognizable later and you are easier. You can also use different sizes.

Using a large straw (or felt tip pen cap or similar), score small half circles in the center of the circle. These are to represent the owl’s feathers. Leave space at the right and left edges and at the top. It is important that this and all subsequent notches are really just notches and not piercing the dough.

Then fold the two sides inward over the “feathers” (these are supposed to be the wings). Next, fold the top part over (this is how the head will be represented).

Using a large felt tip pen cap or a round hole nozzle from a piping bag (or anything else round with a larger diameter, but that will fit on top of the owl’s head), score two eyes into the head. Use a straw to mark the pupils.

Place the owl cookies on the baking sheet, place in the oven and bake for about 12 minutes.
