For the Nutella-flavored date balls, spread the hazelnuts on a baking sheet with baking paper. Preheat oven to 170 °C top/bottom heat.

Roast for 15-20 minutes, turning them over every now and then. Afterwards, keep the oven running and wrap the nuts in a tea towel and leave them in the oven, which has already been turned off.

After about 5 minutes, rub the nuts in the towel between your hands to get the shell off. When the nuts are completely cool, grate or chop them in a nut grater or stand mixer.

Spread the nuts on a large plate and mix with the cocoa. Also add the pulp of the vanilla bean to the plate.

With your fingers, pit and crush the dates. On the plate, knead dates with the nuts. Divide the mixture into evenly sized pieces and roll between your hands to form date balls.
