Instructions:

For the dough, whisk flour and baking powder in a wide bowl. Add the remaining ingredients and mix everything together with a wooden spoon. Finally, knead the dough with your hands. It should feel elastic. If it sticks to your hands, add a little more flour. Set the dough aside.

Rinse the apples, pat dry and cut out a tube from the apples lengthwise with an apple corer. Remove the core in the same way. You should be able to see through the apple.

Seal one end of each apple with a small piece of marzipan paste and fill the apples with raisins and/or nuts or chocolate spread, according to taste. When doing so, press the filling in a little with your finger. Finally, close the remaining opening with a piece of marzipan. Preheat the oven to 160 °C top and bottom heat.

Briefly knead the dough again and divide it into two pieces.

Roll out one piece of dough thinly on a floured work surface. Place an apple on top and cut a circle of dough around it with a kitchen knife. The diameter of the circle should be large enough to fold the dough up around the apple and cover it completely. If there are any gaps in the dough, pull them over each other a little bit and press them down well. Do the same with the remaining dough and all the apples. Bake the apples in the dormancy for 35 to 40 min, until the pastry shell looks golden brown.
