For the waffle batter, place all ingredients in a large enough bowl and mix with the whisk of an electric hand mixer on the highest speed for about 3 – 5 min until creamy. Heat a waffle iron, grease it and bake 4 light brown waffles with the batter. For the topping, drain the asparagus stalks well and place them on the finished waffles. Cut the ham into very fine strips, mix with the grated cheese and sprinkle over the asparagus spears so that they are well covered. Bake the topped waffles in a broiler or in the oven until the cheese has melted.
