First, preheat the grill with either a pyramid cake roller or an appropriate device with a rotating spit and roller and coat with grease.

Cream the butter until fluffy. Add the sugar and vanilla sugar. Stir in the whole eggs, plus four egg yolks and some rum.

Mix flour, starch and baking powder well and add to the mixture. Beat egg whites until very stiff and fold in gently.

Line the grease pan of the grill with baking paper. Spread the batter on the roller on the rotating spit and let it bake for about 2 minutes. Spreading is best done with a pastry brush.

Repeat this process until the batter is used up. Make sure that the surface is not too brown.

Let the cake cool while still on the roller and then carefully slide it down or cut it into pieces.
