Beat the egg whites until creamy, gradually add half of the sugar and the vanilla and beat until stiff but not dry.

Stir the egg yolks until creamy, gradually add the rest of the sugar while stirring, and beat the mixture until it thickens considerably.

Both masses are now mixed and mixed with the bread cubes.

Put half of the berries in a buttered baking dish, put a third of the bread cubes on top, sprinkle half of the chocolate on top, cover with another third of the bread, spread the rest of the berries on top, cover everything together with a layer of bread, sprinkle with the rest of the chocolate and bake everything together with the lid closed (even with a foil) for 1 hour leisurely in a 160 °C hot oven, until a deep incision with a kitchen knife leaves no coating on it.
