For the cherry-almond muffins, preheat the oven to 200 °C. Grease muffin pan or line with paper cups. Mix flour, baking powder, sugar, almonds and salt in a large bowl.

In a 2nd bowl, lightly beat eggs, stir in buttermilk and melted butter. Mix liquid ingredients to dry and mix briefly with a wooden spoon.

Add cherries and stir in briefly. Spoon batter into prepared pan and sprinkle with flaked almonds. Bake the muffins for about 20 minutes until golden brown.

Let cool on a cooling rack and sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
