Instructions:

For the classic apple strudel, first knead all ingredients well for the strudel dough and form the dough into a ball. Leave to rest in an oiled bowl.

In the meantime, peel the apples for the filling, remove the core and cut the flesh into thin slices. Immediately sprinkle with a little lemon juice.

Add 1/4 of the bread crumbs, vanilla sugar, cinnamon, rum raisins, granulated sugar and lemon juice to the apples and mix everything well.

Spread a large kitchen towel on the work surface and sprinkle with flour. Using oiled hands, carefully stretch out the oiled strudel dough until it is so thin you could read a newspaper underneath. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with granulated sugar.

Sprinkle the remaining bread crumbs on the bottom third of the dough. Pour the filling on top. Roll up the strudel tightly with the help of the cloth and place it on a greased baking sheet with the seam facing down.

Brush the apple strudel with melted butter and bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 30-40 minutes.
