Leave the sugar with the water until the amount is honey-yellow, it must not become too dark, otherwise the sugar becomes bitter. Then pour in a medium onion, grated beforehand, and cook it well in the sugar solution. The onion must not be roughly chopped, but finely grated! The taste of onion almost disappears. Pour the mixture onto an oil-lined baking tray and, while it is still hot, press small squares into it with the back of a knife and let them set. You can now easily break the candy apart. They keep fresh for a long time when stored in an airtight tin and have an expectorant effect.
