Rinse the lentils and then soak in cold water for at least 3 hours.

Grind the spices in a mortar. Heat oil in a saucepan and activate the spices and garlic leisurely. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until translucent.

Add the drained lentils and simmer everything together with a little vegetable soup or even water, stirring gently.

Simmer for about a quarter of an hour, adding a little liquid if necessary.

As soon as the lentils are soft, season with salt and pepper.

Serve with: White bread of all kinds and a yogurt-based dip.
