Remove the skin from the onions and cut them into thin strips. In a wide casserole heat the butter and add the onion. Add salt, sugar and a little pepper. Cover and cook on low heat, stirring well from time to time. Sauté until the onions are lightly browned. In the meantime, quarter the apples and remove the core. Later grate coarsely. Then add the wine, vinegar, syrup and grated apples. Continue to koecherln and stir always another time until all the liquid has boiled down.

Remove from heat and cool. Pour into confiture jars.

Goes great with terrines, pâtés, foie gras, game dishes!
