Put flour in a suitable bowl, crumble yeast into the center, stir with a little sugar, a little flour and half the milk to make a dampfl. Let rise for 20 min. Melt the butter, mix with the remaining sugar, salt, grated orange and lemon peels and the eggs and make a yeast dough with the remaining milk and the dampfl. Knead the raisins into the dough.

Fill dough into a greased, floured Gugelhupfform and let rise repeatedly for half an hour with the lid closed, until the mass has doubled. Bake in heated oven, bottom rack, at 200 degrees for 50 min. Cool in the mold for 20 min.

Turn out onto a cake rack to cool completely. Sift powdered sugar, stir with the juice of one lemon and pour over the cake.

Decorate with the cherries.
