A Dampfl is the mixture (pre-dough) that you need for the preparation of a yeast dough.

For this purpose, pour lukewarm milk with sugar into a bowl and crumble the yeast into it. Whisk until smooth and finally dust with a tablespoon of flour. Cover the dampfl with a tea towel and let it rise at room temperature.

The dampfl is ready when the volume has approximately doubled and the surface shows cracks. Now the dampfl can be mixed with the remaining ingredients for the yeast dough.
