Heat the oil in the frying pan. Saute onion, garlic and finely diced bell bell pepper until soft. Add pelati tomatoes without liquid, chop tomatoes with a wooden spoon, add tomato puree. Season with salt, pepper and chopped oregano leaves or Italian spice mixture and simmer on low heat for about half an hour, stirring occasionally. Do not cover the pot completely. Season with sugar and cayenne pepper. Finally, sprinkle with chopped basil leaves.
