Instructions:

1. mix long grain rice and lentils well and rinse thoroughly under cold running water. Set aside.

Heat ghee in a large saucepan. Add onion and sauté for about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. 3.

Reduce heat, add ginger, garlic and turmeric and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

4. add long grain rice and lentils to the mixture in the frying pan and mix gently.

5. add water to mixture in saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce temperature, cover and make 20 to 25 min until long grain rice is cooked and liquid is absorbed.

6. just before serving, season with salt and mix well.

7. spicy long grain rice with lentils in a large, preheated serving bowl form and bring to table on the spot.

Tip: Many Indian recipes use ghee as a cooking fat because, like clarified butter, it can be heated to very high temperatures without burning. Ghee gives dishes a nutty aroma and sauces a shine.

A wonderful combination of long grain rice and red lentils (Masoor Dhal) that is easy to prepare. Depending on your preference, you can add a stick of butter before serving.
