For the Striezel with apples, soak the raisins in the rum for at least 15 minutes. Cut the Striezel into thin slices. Mix milk, eggs, powdered sugar, vanilla sugar and a pinch of salt well.

Peel apples, remove core and cut into thin slices. Mix the apple slices with the juice of the lemon, granulated sugar and the rum raisins.

Now dip the Striezel slices – one by one – into the egg mixture, turn them over and dip them firmly again.

Starting with the Striezel, alternate layers of Striezel and apples in a baking dish. Finally, pour the rest of the egg mixture and the rum mixture over the top of the casserole and place some butter flakes on the top layer.

Bake the pile in a preheated oven at 180° for about 40-50 minutes.

Slice the Striezel with apples while still hot and serve with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream or a spoonful of vanilla sauce.
