Remove peel from potatoes, rinse and rub dry. Cut into 1/2 cm narrow slices. Make sure the potatoes are still hanging together at the bottom. Grease an ovenproof dish and fill in the potatoes close together with the connected side down. Season well, cover with butter flakes and sprinkle with cheese. Place the dish on the rack in the gas oven and bake. As they bake, the potatoes will fluff up like a fan.
