Mix the sugar well with warm water and dry yeast and let it rise in a warm place for about 15 minutes. Sift the baking powder with the flour and knead well with the lard and the yeast mixture to form a smooth yeast dough (add a little more water if necessary). Put the dough in a bowl, cover with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 90-120 minutes until it has tripled in volume. Divide the dough and the bean paste into 12 portions. Roll out the dough pieces, place a portion of bean paste on each and pull the dough together over the top and press it down so that each forms a small dumpling. Let the dumplings rise in a warm place for another 45 minutes. Then place the small dumplings on a piece of baking paper each and place them in turn in the bamboo insert of a steamer basket. Put the lid on and steam over boiling water for 6 minutes.
